Privacy policy

Shunya Shri is published by Gourhit Ventures Private Limited ("Gourhit Ventures", "we", "us"). This policy explains what the Shunya Shri app does and doesn't do with your data. We wrote it in plain language rather than dense legal text, because that's how we'd want a privacy policy written for us.

The short version: your birth details, profiles and coordinates are processed on your phone and never leave it, except through Android's own encrypted Auto Backup to your Google account. We don't run ads, we don't sell data, and there is no login in the app.

What Shunya Shri computes, and where

Shunya Shri is a Vedic time and panchang calculation tool. Every calculation — the current date, tithi, nakshatra, muhurat, and the "good, moderate, or best avoided" verdicts — runs entirely on your device, offline. There is no server that computes or stores your panchang.

Location

• We ask for approximate (coarse), foreground-only location, only to find the nearest city in our bundled list. We never request background location.
• Your position is used for that one lookup and is not stored or transmitted anywhere, by us or through any third party.
• Location is never required: you can always choose a city manually instead.

Birth details and profiles

• If you add a birth date, time and place (or a nakshatra and rashi directly), it's stored only on your device, using Android's local app storage.
• This data is included in Android's Auto Backup, Google's own encrypted backup of your app data to your Google account, so it returns if you reinstall on a device signed into the same account. We have no access to this backup.
• Birth details, profiles and saved cities are never sent to us, to any analytics service, or to any other third party.

Diagnostics and analytics

The app uses Firebase Crashlytics (crash reports) and Firebase Analytics (minimal usage events, with ad personalisation turned off) to help us find bugs and understand which features are used. We never log birth details, coordinates, or profile data to either service, including inside error details. A remote configuration service (Firebase Remote Config) may update the verdict rule table, paywall copy or feature flags; it does not receive any data about you beyond standard app and device identifiers.

Subscriptions

Premium features are billed through Google Play Billing (and, once available, Apple In-App Purchase) and managed with RevenueCat. Purchases use an anonymous RevenueCat app user ID; there is no Shunya Shri account or login. We never use Razorpay or any external payment link — all billing goes through the app store you installed from.

What we don't do

• We don't require or offer any account login in the current version of the app.
• We don't sell your personal data.
• We don't show ads.
• We don't collect background location.

City data

The bundled city list (names, coordinates and time zones) is derived from GeoNames, used under a CC BY 4.0 licence. See our terms of service for the full attribution and the changes we made to that data.

Your rights (India's DPDP Act, 2023)

Where the Digital Personal Data Protection Act applies, you may request access to, correction of, or erasure of any personal data we hold about you, and you may withdraw consent at any time. Because birth details and profiles never leave your device, the simplest way to exercise these rights for that data is to delete it in the app, or to uninstall the app. For anything you believe we hold about you (for example, in diagnostic logs), contact us using the details below.

Children

Shunya Shri is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us and we'll remove it.

Changes to this policy

If we make a material change to how Shunya Shri handles your data, we'll update this page and revise the date at the top. We encourage you to review it from time to time.
